After the smartphone and tablet boom we can see more and more brands racing to introduce a smart watch.

A watch nowadays can do almost anything. But let’s go some decades back, more precisely to the beginning of 1980s. I was a boy and the world was completely different. Today’s advancements in the communication field are one big adventure for me. When I look back, it is beyond belief how fast technologies had been changing.

That boy used to sit in front of a black and white TV in the evening, able to choose from eight channels. And because we lived only a few kilometers from the Iron Curtain, bordering Austria, we were able to watch foreign programs and movies. I remember the first season of the 1960 s TV series Star Trek very well. Captain Kirk in the 23rd century had something that for me meant absolute sci-fi – a communicator on his wrist, a predecessor of the modern day smart watch. We did not even need three hundred years, only several decades.

Personally, I think that Steve Jobs and people from Apple were probably huge Star Trek fans. Currently, the Apple Watch is the most successful and dominant product among intelligent watches on the market. The boom in popularity of smart watches is enormous. Frankly, a smart watch today can do almost everything. It is on its way to become a perfect fashion accessory that makes modern life style easier.

Editor`s choice

If someone masters the construction of a stylish smart watch to perfection, it is TAG Heuer. The watch is called Connected and its design comes from the Carrera line. The watch was developed in collaboration with Google and Intel and has the TAG Heuer seal of luxury. Thanks to the titanium case and the vulcanized rubber strap its weight is an excellent 52g (1.8oz). The case diameter is 46mm (1.8in) which makes the watch more fit for a man’s wrist.

The size provides outstanding legibility of the LCD display, protected by a sapphire screen. Besides the sapphire, resistance is guaranteed by iP67 certification confirming that the watch is dust resistant and should also be able to stay 1m (3.3ft) under water up to 30 minutes. You can connect the watch to Wi-Fi and sync it with your phone through Blootooth. The display can be set to show the time, weather or Google Fit regime that will lay out the number of steps, the distance covered and calories burnt. Google Play offers more than 4,000 apps for Android Wear.

TAG Heuer Connected comes with the choice of strap color in green, blue, orange, red, white, black or yellow. Retail price is set to $1500. Admittedly, it is quite a lot, but remember – a couple of decades ago this would be only unimaginable sci-fi.
