When purchasing a watch make sure to keep the proof of purchase, all certificates, manuals and of course the original packaging if you wish to maintain its value.
If you resized the band, keep all the spare parts. I would strongly recommend to read the instructions carefully. If you however choose to ignore this, at least ask the dealer to walk you throught the functions and care. Each distributor of branded luxury watches has undergone mandatory training and each can provide valuable information. This helps you to maintain the best performance and perfect condition of your new watch. Regular checks carried out by an expert watchmaker will ensure your watch stays technically perfectly functional.
Only experts should replace batteries in quarz watches and check the functionality of all parts and tests waterproofing. If you underestimate these checks you run a risk of irreversible damage. Pay similar attention to control the state of a steel band. Loose string bars can result in loss or fall of your watch leading to a damage.
Washing your watch belongs to basic proper watch care. It is downright easy in case of waterproof watches – simply wash them with soap under running water. Use a moist piece of cloth to wipe non-water resistant timepieces and then let them dry out. Opt for a microfiber cloth used for cleaning glasses to polish the glass. The cloth has to be soft and shall not be used before the watch has been washed. This way you remove the dust first which could otherwise act as sand paper.
You steel band can be cleaned the same way as a waterproof watch. Be careful when cleaning other bands, though. Rubber bands can be washed with soap water as well, but use a moist cloth only for leather bands. Avoid chemicals, sun lotions and oils since these leave permanent marks. Time invested in watch care can surely be monetized when you sell your piece, but a glance at the beauty on your wrist is certainly priceless.
